How to Play Wizard Slap Fight

Game Overview

Wizard spell slots are a valuable resource. Even the most powerful sorcerers prefer to resolve their conflicts with a battle of wits. Mighty wizards come before the Wizard Council to settle their grievances. The loser is slapped for wasting the council’s time with their petty display.

This group party game is appropriate for ages 12+ and 4-10 players. Ideal slapping conditions are created with 6 or more players.

Set Up

Players choose 1 of 14 powerful wizards. Each wizard brings its own unique abilities to the table. Some wizards are aggressive, while others are evasive or more resourceful.

Shuffle all prompt and magic item cards together as a draw pile. Place the slap tokens and timer in a central location. Give a set of “slap” and “don’t slap” voting cards to each player. All players draw 6 cards from the draw pile. This is the default starting hand size.

Turn Order

The game is played in rounds. A round is complete when all wizards have dueled.

The first round begins by shuffling all active wizards together. Two wizards are drawn at random to duel each other.

Wizards who have already dueled are excluded from subsequent drawing pools. Once all wizards have dueled, the drawing pool is refreshed.

If there are an odd number of wizards, the wizard who has not dueled in the previous round is automatically selected first for the following round.

Magic Item Phase

If either wizard has a magic item, they must play it during this phase (unless the item card says otherwise). If a magic item that destroys other magic items is played during this phase, the opponents magic item is also destroyed (again, unless the card says otherwise).

Slap Fight Phase

The two dueling wizards insult each other using 3 strategically selected prompt cards from their hands. Prompt cards are laid out in the order in which they are revealed.

Voting Phase

The voting cards are placed face down in front of the two dueling wizards. For example, if Wizard A had a weaker insult, the “slap” card is placed face down in front of Wizard A. The “don’t slap” card is placed face down in front of Wizard B.

When all votes have been cast, they are revealed by the wizards who dueled. The player with the most “Don’t Slap” votes is declared the winner.

Tie Breakers

In the event of a tie, the slap fight continues. Both wizards must use an additional prompt card in their insult. This continues until a winner has been decided. If players run out of prompt cards in their hand, they must use a prompt card from the draw pile.

Elimination

Wizards are eliminated when they receive 3 slaps.

Note: It is possible to require extra slaps for elimination due to magic item enhancements, wizard abilities, etc.
